How is CineBlack different from other Black Mist filters?

CineBlack was designed to push diffusion further without flattening contrast. Compared to our standard 1/4 Black Mist 135 Series, CineBlack has a denser particle structure that produces a stronger highlight bloom and more pronounced halation, while still preserving depth in shadows and blacks.

What strength should I choose?

1/2 strength delivers a more noticeable bloom and vintage-style rolloff, especially with light sources in frame. If you’re shooting commercial work, interviews, or golden hour - 1/4 is your go-to. For stylized work or stronger film emulation - 1/2 gives more punch.

What cameras and lenses is CineBlack compatible with?

CineBlack is available in standard threaded sizes (67mm, 77mm, 82mm, etc.) and is compatible with most cinema and DSLR glass. It also pairs seamlessly with theHelix Filter System and LiteChaser mobile rigs when using step-up rings or the Helix baseplate.

Does CineBlack affect color or exposure?

No. CineBlack is designed to maintain neutral color accuracy and exposure. The diffusion layer only affects light texture and highlight softness, not tint or ND levels.

Can I stack CineBlack with other filters?

Yes - CineBlack stacks cleanly with NDs, VNDs, CPLs, or protective filters. For best results, place CineBlack closest to the lens to control bloom and halation with the most precision.
